La Ceiba Nightmare

I am not happy. I am pissed off, fucking pissed off, about the recent burning prison deaths in La Ceiba, Honduras. Pissed off enough to be having trouble finding the words to express what I feel about governments rounding up suspected and convicted criminals and barbequeing the motherfuckers. Is the Honduran government, the government of a state that has pretty much failed because of our subhuman war on drugs, responsible for the deaths? When you take away someone's liberty you take responsibility for them. It does not matter if you are a government or a kidnapper, should you care to make the distinction.

In case you have not read a quotation from a prisoner who survived the fire, here is one sentence from Jose Enrique Guevara. "I was in bed when they shouted fire, then I heard screaming and smelled burning flesh."

Sounds like something a survivor of Horoshima or Nagasaki might have said.

Some fucking war the war on drugs is. I can smell the burning flesh from here.

Not very poetic but my friend, Laura, who's active in the teacher's union, sent me this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvg1JcvC3KM&feature=colike
