I've been in three riots. One was about sports and involved lots of white people pretty. That riot went as you describe. The other two included some non white people and involved cops. The cops ran and smashed and laughed. The rest of us just ran.
If it weren't for cops there would never be riots. People love having a go at them - no matter how it turns out.
