I have been reading some of Bukowski's old letters. For the most part they make you appreciate the craft that went into the words of his that were meant for publication in his lifetime. There is some good stuff mixed in with his mostly less than exciting correspondence between publishers, other writers and such. Reminds me of what Lou Reed said about his music, "My shit is better than most people's diamonds."
Here is a quote from Bukowski's letters I like very much. "...that's what I like about writing things on a piece of paper: you can behave any fucking way you please."
