The basketball game was playing on the gym's tv today. Celtics in their whites, Heat in their blacks. Do not much care for basketball but today's game was different from most. Both teams were fresh, uninjured and fit, if a little inaccurate. It was like watching a high school game in a mostly black neighbourhood. There was enthusiasm, a little simmering hatred and the Boston crowd, white as Bobby Orr's ass, sure looked happy to be there.
When I got home I turned on the Canucks game. Hockey, like all sports, sure is boring after you have seen roller derby girls go toe to toe.

I'm a Bruins fan from the old days at the Garden, when we used to fight the Flyers fans all game long up in the cheap seats. Right now we're dealing with the world series and hordes of Texans wandering around in SF looking for bar b que. They seem nice, but I know where they come from so I don't trust them. You guys are doing well up there, we have no hockey or roller derby in SF and the lack thereof is sad and inexplicable. Probably have to go to San Jose and ask around. I like that skeleton. Did Moscoso do that? Spain? I better go,I'm wandering...I like the writing
I did not take note of the image's creator, I like it a lot too though. It has a real gunslinger look to it.
We do too have roller derby in SF. You're not looking hard enough.

the revived Bay City Bombers look to be terribly serious, a mixed team and a true bank track team.

Bay Area Derby Girls are an all girl flat track league.

Sonoma County Roller Girls are also in a flat track league.
Just for the permanent record. You understand. There's more teams if you look around.
There's people in San Francisco who take The Sharks seriously but I think they all moved here from Minnesota. What ever happened to The San Francisco Spiders? They and their league were heavily hyped for about two weeks and they disappeared when the money ran out. I liked their logo.
Thanks for that Jon. I was wondering if iniplmr1 was referring to Santa Fe but they have a roller derby league there too. In fact, if you live in the good old USA your town has to be smaller than Sarah Palin's worldview not to have a roller derby league in it, and Canada is catching up fast.
This another example of me talking about shit before I check it out. In many parts of the English speaking world I believe it's known as "blathering." How hard could it be to just google bay area hockey and roller derby? I feel small, as if I've been caught in some weird place that people like me aren't supposed to visit, yet better due to the actual situation....Thanks Jon

Beer, meet Tim. Tim, meet Beer. Tim is a real person. He's sat in my kitchen. Tim, I have every reason to believe Beer is a real person. He sounds like the same guy most days anyway. Beer I recommended you to Tim. Tim, I'm recommending you to Beer. Tim is just like everyone else. He is not perfect. He's not stupid either and he can be pretty interesting. My friend, Quinton, will vouch for him that's pretty good credentials. Tim, no need to apologize to me and I'm pretty sure Beer appreciates people who take the time to read his stuff.
It's true, you know, I do appreciate those of you who stop by and read a page or two. Sounds like this Tim fellow, if he's sat in a might-as-well-be-a-Newfie's kitchen in faraway Santa Rosa, California, where they have a smart little racetrack, must be the sort of American I have enjoyed spending time with over the years, as opposed to the other kind. But I bet he would be a better man once he has been to the roller derby.
I'm going, don't worry. I'm bringing my 12 year old son too. Lets see what he thinks about wheeled armored fighting women in the flesh. I watched roller derby on Saturday mornings when I was a kid and I bet he feels a lot like I did. I've been to two Sharks games so far. Two pro hockey games with no fights on the ice but sweet jumping jesus, those guys could all skate and they were 90% Canadians, as usual....First game, the SJ guy in the net stopped everything. Minnesota got shut out.It was a real well behaved crowd,a very eerie experience, relatively peaceful hockey fans. Not me, them. I was foaming like you're supposed to be at a hockey game.
