Sinners and Saints

Our fathers are a constant source of mirth, our mother's less so. Why is it men are so naturally, unwittingly laughable? The very essence of a man people can get along with, perhaps even respect, is the man who can laugh at himself because if you cannot laugh at your laughable self people question your ability to accurately perceive the rest of the world. If a man does not think of himself as a joke, he is a joke.

This is part of the charm of the President of the United States of America. Every single last one of them, even Nixon. It is not part of the charm of the Prime Minister of Canada. Harper's string-pullers encourage their man to laugh at himself but he is unconvincing. Why? Canadian leaders do not laugh at themselves as easily as their American counterparts. Canadians leaders are so polite they find it difficult to openly laugh at themselves, however much they may do so under their own toques.

Seeing Jim Carrey portray Ronald Reagan got me thinking about this. Wouldn't Carrey make a great Prime Minister? I too like the man who can laugh at himself. In part, this may explain my attraction to political parties like the Groucho-Marxists and the Rhinoceros. Mainstream political parties take themselves as seriously as religions do. It is unhealthy. No Pope who can laugh at himself, at his faith, could possibly consider making the Pope who kissed the Nazi's ass a saint. The motherfucker must be joking.
