Sibelius, Sonja and I

I was listening to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s 1979 recording of Sibelius when Sonja came home with some groceries and wine.

I was just about to tell her how fucking excellent I thought the record was until she put in her two bits worth ahead of me.

“This sure is depressing. What the fuck is it?”

“It’s the collectible record I was telling you about last night. Now I know why. It is beautiful as one thousand acres of marijuana near harvest.”

Lou Reed wrote a song about couples like us. Hot dog/tofu couples and how they make their differences into something worth hanging on to forever. It is called “Love Is Here To Stay.”

Good one Beer!

I trust Sonja reads your blog!

Sonja says the same thing every time I quote her: “I never fucking said that!”

Isn't that also what Mr. Reed also said to pretty much every critic/music writer ever?

I had never considered the possibility of Sonja’s similarity with Lou Reed might explain my attraction to her. Oh well, at least she looks more like Anne Murray than Lou.

What wrath would befall us if we tried to cover Snowbird for the Advent Juke?

Someone might ask if your false teeth were in during the recording.

Did you know that a woman can leave the room in a very pointed fashion? My wife is a practicing Baptist out of Mennonite roots and would never utter the words,"What the fuck is that?" but she's skilled at conveying the same meaning through body language when I have something more raucous on the living room apparatus or when the office walls start to shake.

Sonja is not exactly religious and her roots are in the Swedish boxing and street fighting and steel working tradition. Asking, “What the fuck is that?” is considered polite conversation around here.
