Blue For You

Bought some fresh vegetables this morning. Leeks, carrots, celery, that sort of thing. Some of it organic, some of it not. Made a hippy stew in the slow cooker when I got home. It is that time of year, the time of year you are sure to get sick as fuck if you have not been taking care of yourself at least a little.

That is why I get a flu shot every year now too. Liquor alone keeps no one well for long. Look at Lou Reed. Would have been dead decades ago if not for balancing his bad habits with good.

On my way home with my plastic bags of groceries I stopped at a thift store to see if I could find any music to play while putting together the stew. Paid one dollar for Joni Mitchell's "Blue." Already had the record, now I can listen to the cd in my car.

No need for me to review one of the most perfect records ever made. When she sings, "I want to make you feel free," she is singing to me from her Anarchist island in the Salish Sea. And when she was singing "River" to me I thought, "It sure would be nice if Shithead sang that song."

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace

Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

I noticed when it was over it had played for just over 36 minutes. All killer, no filler. Not the droning hour or more bands and their motherfucking record companies expect us to listen to on modern cds or the smaller yet digital shit people listen to their music on.

Shithead really could play that song.

And my kid could sing it.

(maybe just not with the good Mr. Keithly).

Your kid should sing it. If Nazareth can sing a Joni Mitchell song, anybody, but especially Joe, can, with that great skating imagery going on.
