I read books. When I read them I am always on the lookout for the sentence that shines unmistakably like a diamond. I am glad I read English, the finest language in the world for producing such gems.
I do not read books more than once often. Most books do not have enough diamonds in them to make the effort worthwhile. The ones that do you cannot read often enough.
I am reading George Orwell's "Coming Up For Air." It may be the last of Orwell's books to reach my hands. I have read many of his other books more than once. He uses the word "bumsuckers" for ass-kissers. I fucking love that. The sentence I really like is,
"Killing things - that's about as near to poetry as a boy gets."
