Christmas Hockey Story

Curlers, what many Canadians become if they are poor skaters, think they can booze it up with anybody. Anybody except the hockey players they wish they were any how. Here is an excerpt from the Ashcroft/Cache Creek Journal which gives a glimpse into what hockey players are capable of near closing time, when they have out-drank every curler in town.

...at 1:30 AM police attended a bar brawl at the River Inn where participants of a hockey tournament had gathered. At least five people were known to have taken part in the brawl where three Ashcroft men assaulted a 34 year old Williams Lake man, hitting him in the face repeatedly with a broken bottle while hitting him and kicking him several times. The man eventually left the bar with substantial facial injuries, on foot, only partially clad in cold weather. Police called in a police dog but the man was not located until the following day. A 36 year old bouncer who tried to break up the fight was also attacked but only received minor injuries. 50 - 60 unruly patrons in the bar were eventually dispersed by the use of pepper spray. The matter is still under investigation.
